The Gerenuk / Giraffe gazelle

The Gerenuk / Giraffe gazelle

The gerenuk, also known as the giraffe gazelle, is a long-necked antelope. It is  found in the Horn of Africa and the drier parts of East Africa.

The gerenuk female stands 80-100cm (31.5-39.4in) tall while their male counterparts are taller standing 89-105cm (35-41in) tall.

The gerenuk has a long neck and legs to reach the top of trees. They stand up on their hind legs and place their forelegs on the branches to pull it down to reach. This is one of their adaptations because it allows them to have a different diet than the other 40 species of deer in Africa.
