Climbing Mt. Kenya is now an “easy task’. Mt. Kenya National Park now holds the world record for the world’s highest via ferrata at 4,985m/16,355 ft above sea level.

This is fairly as a result of an initiative by the Kenya Wildlife serv ice.  The new via ferrata started being used in July 2012 on Mount Kenya. It  provides a safe passage on the Northwest approach to Point Lenana (via Austrian Hut). It is also advantageous  from the south side (Shipton).  Christened “Olonana”, it is the world’s highest via ferrata, at 4,985 metres.

Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro. The highest peaks of the mountain are Batian Nelion (5,188 metres and Point Lenana. Mount Kenya is located in central Kenya,  16.5 kms south of the equator, 150 kms  north-northeast  Nairobi. Mount Kenya is the source of the name of the Republic of Kenya
